Fruits: The bitter fruits of the flowering dogwood tree are better known as drupes. They are shiny, bright red, oval shape, and are in tight clusters. Once the fruits are present, they don't begin to ripen until October. Although the fruits are poisonous to humans, many of our native birds enjoy munching on these berries including the Northern Cardinal. |
